Originally founded in 1975 as Murphey Bros. Woodworks in Burlington, Vermont, Murphey Woodworks carries on the legacy started by the original Murphey brothers John, Jim and Dan.
Murphey Woodworks owner Kelly M. Murphey (son of original Murphey brother John) comes to the building world with a background in sustainable forest management, trail building, carpentry, timber framing, natural home design/build and fine woodworking.
With a degree in sustainable forestry from Warren Wilson College and continuing education at the Vermont Woodworking School, Yestermorrow Design/Build School, The Heartwood School for the Homebuilding Crafts, the Fox Maple School of Traditional Building and the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Kelly’s approach to building focuses on utilizing only the finest, locally-sourced, natural materials.
Kelly has an immense respect for the natural world and believes that a good woodworker needs to be a responsible steward of the land, working with natural systems not against them. He applies this mentality to everything he designs and builds.
